Community Service
Watch a video about community service in Brazil
Due to poorer economic conditions in Northeast Brazil, GLA students can have the greatest impact on local communities. Because the key to helping these communities is by educating the next generation, much of GLA students’ efforts are focused on providing improved educational opportunities for local children. Through meaningful volunteer work and a total of 40 community service hours, GLA students are positively changing lives.
Students work at after-school centers in poor neighborhoods who serve at-risk youth, examples of service projects include:
- Developing educational arts & craft activities for the children
- Teaching conversational English
- Painting murals of hope to beautify neighborhoods and inspire its residents
