Guatemala: Living Mayan Culture

"Guatemala is a land where history is alive, cultures are preserved, and yet, is facing the same challenges of globalization that industralized countries face.  Questions of identity, security and culture in a global economy."

This 1-week journey is based in rural town of Tecpan, Guatemala.  While only two hours from the bustling, urban capital city, it is a town with very strong Mayan influence.  It is the home of the Kak'chikél people who still maintain their culture and language.  In the morning, you will volunteer with a local educational center for children from local farming communities.  In the afternoons, we will learn about the local culture and social issues facing the community - and also meet leaders who are working to improve the lives of the local residents.
